In these days of nuclear families many young children lose out on those rich, satisfying and joyful bonds that can exist between a grandparent and a grandchild.
In this endearing story told in the voice of a little girl, Malar, we are swept away into the enchanted world that her grandfather creates for her. A world in which ordinary commonplace experiences of life transform into the magical.
One in which a journey in an imaginary car ride leads to imaginary goats and cows scuttling away, and a trip to the beach leads to an enchanting underwater experience.
No wonder Malar says, Thathu and I never do ordinary things.
The story is ably enhanced by simple, engaging llustrations. Black and white line drawings and restricted use of colour effectively capture the wondrous 'bachpan ke din' mood of the story.
