What makes for a great book? The story, the message, the illustrations?
If, all of the above are important, then this book scores a perfect TEN!
It is the story of a hapless little tiger; who, not really having been made aware of the ‘Lakshman Rekha’ drawn by Man wily-nily crosses a stream and reaches human habitation. Scared by a little goat, he climbs up a tree and is soon trapped.
The story is narrated in absolutely delightful verse,
” Tiger, tiger on the shore,
Does he want to go across?
Make a dash? Be bold?
Be rash?
Splash!’
And then again, “
Will he bite?
He might!
Shoo him!
Boo him!
Make him jump!
Dum duma dum dum.
Minimalistic illustrations – bold, strong and forceful make for a very inviting book, one that both parent and child will love reading.
The typography bounces along the pages suitably complementing the minimalist narration.
A great environmental message conveyed succinctly and beautifully!
