Having discovered the art of making a kolam, Susheela is unstoppable. She wants to make them on any flat surface that she sees, and so, she makes kolams on walls, kites, tall buildings, on trains and even in the sky with the help of some air force pilots!
Whilst, the concept is cute and the information about kolams very useful, the parent or teacher should guide a child that whist it is alright in a book, graffiti on walls and on trains is not generally appreciated and desirable.
The details at the end of the book on various basic kolam designs is an added advantage.
With simple straight-forward lines, the illustrations adequately capture the feel of the pongal festival being celebrated in a village of Tamil Nadu and is a great book for parents to show and explain to a child about the various festivals of India and how each one is celebrated in its own unique manner .
